Color Blocking

I'm sure you have all seen this season's latest trend of color blocking but you probably didn't know it was called "color blocking"...I definitely didn't.

Color blocking takes bold opposites on the color wheel, and puts them together for the widest contrast possible.

This is a color wheel.
The primary colors on the color wheel are: red, blue and yellow.  The secondary colors are purple (blue/red), green (yellow/blue), and orange (red/yellow).  The ideal color block scheme would be to take a red, mix it with a green, and add a third color.  A word of caution for a petite or not necessarily slim person, be careful when trying to put together a color blocking outfit, be careful as it can cut you horizontally, making you look wider and larger than you'd probably like.  Chose colors that flatter your body time and skin tone.

Yes gentlemen, you can also pull off this hot new trend...

Color blocking can also be achieved by mixing a bright colored top with bright colored nails or lipstick/lip gloss.  Below is a picture of Keri Hilson who matched up her fuchsia lips (that match her top) with yellow nails. It's such a fun contrast of colors.  When color blocking your lips and/or nails with your outfit, you can experiment with any other bold colors that are very different from each other, don't limit yourself to simply fuchsia and yellow.

You can also experiment with color blocking with just your nails.  This is a fun, easy and budget-friendly way to have fun this season with the latest color trends.  Don't limit yourself to simply one solid color per nail either, feel free to experiment with polka dots and stripes or any other patterns/designs you are brave enough to sport.  Check out Beyonce Knowles' daring color blocked manicure below.
